Tomorrow night! Okay Space will be presenting their last opening of 2016 with Amy Hood, CAUCHEMAR.  Showing from 7pm - 10pm.

“CAUCHEMAR is the nightmare of life, creative optimism in the face of so many hardships. Stills from a dream, those vibrant and dizzyingly viscous visions you see on the backs of your lids when you close your eyes or geometric reinterpretations of a surreal reality. They’re an observation of shape, texture and especially color that is an extension of my heart, measured by brain and fueled by my visceral fire.” — Amy Hood

Ricky Powell - An Interview with The Funky Uncle & Gallery Opening Tonight @ 212 Arts LES, NYC January 7, 2016 12:13 1 Comment

So where do you start when discussing the infamous Ricky Powell? Ricky is an institution. He’s a NYC living legend. He’s the OG hip-hop street photographer who has worked with such legends as The Beastie Boys, RUN DMC, LL Cool J, Eric B. & Rakim, and Big L…. just to name a few.

But beyond that Ricky is the most interesting person you will ever meet at a dive bar in NYC who will talk your ear off with tales of the golden era of hip-hop, current events, fashion, sports, food, and everything else the 5 boroughs has to offer.

While Al Diaz will forever be linked to Jean Michel Basquiat as a co-creator of SAMO©, the hugely influential, conceptual street art project, Diaz has since long moved on.  Diaz cleverly wields wit, humor and biting satire in projects that include his graffiti moniker, "BOMB 1" and his utilization of New York City Transit's 'Wet Paint' and 'Service Change' signs into his works on paper.  This pop-up show also featuring collaborators like Jilly Ballistic was curated by fellow street artist Ellis Gallagher.
